RENEWED IN THE SERVICE OF THE CHURCH

Renewed at the service of the Church

We have ahead of us a unique event, which we will live together in the most authentic spirit of friendship that is the basis of our being Cursillistas: the World Ultreya, to be held on Friday, June 6, 2025, in Rome, in the Papal Basilica of San Paolo Extra muros.
The event, proposed by the OMCC in the framework of the Jubilee of the Movements, underlines first of all our being Church together with all the other movements and associations that walk towards the Father in the footsteps of Jesus.
Italy and the OMCC have been working together for some months now, in a climate of serene and intense collaboration, in the organization of this event that will gather sisters and brothers from all over the world in Rome to share unforgettable moments.
It will be a moment in which we will feel reborn in us, in each one of us, that ardor that warmed the hearts of the two disciples of Emmaus after having walked, listened and broken bread together with Jesus.
We are sure that it will be so, because the friendship we share will make us feel strong and on the right side: and with a renewed spirit, with recovered energy, with determination we will return to our dioceses, to our cities, to our communities ready to continue to witness that God in Christ loves us individually, one by one, with the same faithful love.

Then we will have the convincing confirmation that the distinctions, the divisions, the regrets, the delays on issues that are now abandoned to the past do not make sense among us; then we can say with Eduardo Bonnín that the only founder of the Cursillos in Christianity is the Holy Spirit, who gave the Church an extraordinary instrument of evangelization and that the poverty of some men (laity, priests and bishops) was used to spread it throughout the world and bring millions of people closer to the only thing that really matters, that is the encounter with the Lord.
Are we fully aware of how much need there is in our society, in a world still disfigured by war, hunger, poverty, of the Word of God, of the Good News of the Gospel, of faith in the Person who saves?
Do we know that our young people expect from us authentic and credible testimonies of a faith that becomes a life lived and that, as such, opens the hope of a better future for all those who are already on this earth, because it is here that the kingdom of God must be built?

Toni Vadell, former spiritual animator of Palma de Mallorca, auxiliary bishop of Barcelona who died at the age of 49 in 2022, in one of his meditations said that when the rich young man turns his back on Jesus and leaves, he loses the most beautiful thing: the gaze full of tenderness and love with which Jesus follows him. And he concluded by saying that this is what we must announce in the Cursillos: how Jesus looks at each one of us.
We must announce it and we must practice this aptitude, for those who remain in Cursillo and for those who go through the streets of the world: without considering this gaze of Jesus, who knows no judgments (nor prejudices) what Cursillo do we live?
Richard of St. Vittore, 12th century Scottish theologian and philosopher, said “Ubi amor ibi
oculus”: our gaze of love, which comes from a heart that loves, becomes care, attention, service for the brother and sister who are on our way. In this spirit, even if it costs effort and money, let us prepare ourselves spiritually to go “pilgrims of hope” to Rome, to our World Ultreya: we will return richer and stronger, always ready to project ourselves with enthusiasm, as the Holy Father asks us, in the task of Evangelization of our Mother Church.
