Join the Campaign: 3€ for the Spreading of Cursillo throughout the World

CAMPAIGN 3$/3€
ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT THANKS TO THE 3$/3€ CAMPAIGN
IN THE DISSEMINATION OF THE MCC IN AFRICA AND EASTERN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES
Since its beginnings, the Movement of Cursillos in Christianity has shown a great capacity to expand and reach new territories to develop its evangelizing activity. This expansion has taken place in many different ways, both through the personal actions of cursillistas and through ecclesial institutions. This has allowed the Movement to be present today on the five continents.
In recent years, a great effort has been made in this expansion process through National Secretariats, International Groups, and the OMCC itself, especially in Africa and Eastern European countries. Part of the actions developed have been financed by the personal contributions of some cursillistas, by the contributions of some National Secretariats, and by the “3€ Campaign” that some countries carried out.
Thus, it was possible to support the establishment of the Cursillo Movement in Ukraine: collaborating in the celebration of the first Cursillos, facilitating the creation of service structures (Schools and Secretariats), and supporting its participation and integration in the European Group (GECC). Today, in the difficult circumstances of war, under the shadow of war and conflict, the Movement in Ukraine continues to live and transmit life: the last Cursillo was held last November!
The €3 campaign also supported the start of the Movement in Poland, specifically in the diocese of Krakow. It enabled the necessary travel to contact the Church authorities and organise the first Cursillo Weekends with them. He supported those first Cursillos and now continues to support the groups of cursillistas, the creation of the Schools, and the preparation of the next Cursillos.
In Africa, this campaign has made it possible to continue the journey begun years ago through the GECC to promote the Movement in South Africa and nearby countries. We must acknowledge and thank the Lord for the extraordinary work of our brother Francis Napoli, who is now in the hands of the Father (DEP). South Africa has become a more solid and consistent reality in Africa. Since the reintroduction of the MCC in 2009, more than 50 Cursillos have been held, structures have been created in various dioceses, and the National Secretariat, with its corresponding episcopal approval, was integrated into the GECC in 2017. With the fundamental support of the Cursillista brothers and sisters in South Africa, the Movement was promoted in Uganda, Ghana, and Lesotho. Uganda has a willing and vibrant Cursillista community, even if no sustained structures are in place. Several Cursillos were held with external teams and others with local teams. However, the community was greatly affected during the Covid-19 pandemic and was supported through the €3 Campaign. In Ghana and Lesotho, Cursillo has also been held with external teams, although its development is slower. The link with South Africa is being maintained, and work is underway to strengthen and revitalize the life of the Movement there.
The €3 campaign has also allowed initial contacts to be made in other countries where the Movement does not yet exist. Francis Napoli visited Mauritius, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, and Cameroon, making arrangements with the local hierarchy and laying the groundwork to begin holding Cursillos.
There is still a long way to go in Africa. On the one hand, to reconnect with the French-speaking countries where the Movement is present: Togo, Benin, and Burkina Faso, where the Cursillo Movement was introduced and supported by the French-speaking Cursillo Movement of Canada (MCFC). To promote the life of the Cursillo Movement in these countries and, from there, to consider other possibilities of expansion in the area. In Equatorial Guinea, the Cursillo Movement is also present, and with the support of the National Secretariat of Spain, Cursillos have been taking place and structures created. In Mozambique and Angola, the Cursillo Movement has existed, initiated and supported by the National Secretariat of Portugal, and these are other countries in which we intend to work.
Some other expansion projects are now ongoing in other parts of the world, such as in the Caribbean or Japan. There is still a lot of world to travel and to illuminate with the Gospel, and much prayer, many initiatives, and much support from the entire Cursillo community worldwide are required for that journey.
