Our initiators

A bit of history.

The Cursillo Movement was born in Spain, precisely on the Island of Mallorca, between the years 1940 to 1949. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, several lay people and some priests clearly recognised that, as a consequence of the sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation, even lay people also have an active and peculiar role in the mission of evangelising mankind. This initiators’ group was formed mainly by laypeople lead by Eduardo Bonnín Aguiló, as well as some priests, among whom the then Bishop of Mallorca, Juan Hervás Benet and Msgr. Sebastián Gayá Riera.
