Nearly 4,000 Cursillistas from Paraguay’s 12 dioceses gathered in Asunción on 25 October for the 31st National Ultreya 2026—a day of faith, communion and commitment that also marked 60 uninterrupted years of the Cursillo Movement in the country.
Hosted by the Archdiocese of the Most Holy Assumption under the motto “Let us live for the common good, united to Christ with joy”, the Ultreya renewed the call to bring the joy of the Gospel into every environment of life.
A Night of Colours and fraternity
The celebration began on the eve with the traditional Night of Colours, an evening of music, art and cultural expression that strengthened bonds of fraternity throughout the Paraguayan Cursillo family.
The common good at the heart of the reflection
The central rollo offered a lived reflection on the Pastoral Letter on the Common Good of the Paraguayan Episcopal Conference. It invited participants to respond to today’s social challenges through justice, solidarity and a clear commitment against corruption.
Eucharist and hope
The high point was the Eucharistic celebration, presided over by the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Vincenzo Turturro. In his homily, Auxiliary Bishop Gabriel Escobar of Asunción encouraged a steadfast and hopeful Christian commitment, especially alongside those most vulnerable.
“Christian commitment does not retreat in the face of difficulties; rather, it grows stronger in the active pursuit of justice and dignity for all, especially the most vulnerable.”
— Bishop Gabriel Escobar
Sixty years sowing hope
The 31st National Ultreya celebrated six decades of ecclesial service and renewed the mission of the Cursillo Movement in Paraguay. As a sign of continuity, Carlos Torres Ayala, president of the National Secretariat, handed the Pilgrim Cross to Carlos Báez, president of the Diocesan Secretariat of the Most Holy Incarnation, host of the next National Ultreya.
